SIR ARTHUR C. CLARKE [1917-] Born in Minehead, Somerset, England he served as radar specialist during WWII. The ideas of geostationary communications satellites and space elvators are credited to him. In 1956, he moved to Colombo, Sri Lanka, receiving his knighthood there in 1998 by proxy from the UK High Commissioner due to his post-polio-syndrome which had since 1988. Among his several dozens novels and collections are 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010, 2061, 3001 and The Songs of Distant Earth. He is currently the Honorary Board Chair of the Institute for Cooperation in Space.

Using the Livecam Video Server we streamed Live video from Chicago, USA (41°53' N, 87°40' W) and Colombo, Sri Lanka (6°55' N, 79°52' E) is approximately 14442 kilometers, (8975 miles). The Vosaic developers at UIUC turned down the task feeling there MPEG Streaming technology would not work. Using the SPAC Streaming Protocol we were able to over come long latencies and high loss to transmit high quality video that could be projected on a huge 70mm theater screen.
